The Discovery phase of the web design process is all about information-gathering. This step is important for us to understand more about your business, your target market and customers, and your ultimate goals for the website. Based on our discussions, we will help you understand the possibilities and provide you with potential solutions. This initial phase is also our opportunity to inform you about our project management methodology, and important points that you will need to address after the website has been completed.
Important: The Discovery Phase is a key part of any serious web development project and requires many hours of work on our part. During this phase we are essentially providing a consultancy service for which we will charge a fixed consultancy fee (see our Terms & Conditions).
As well as reimbursing us for our time and effort, this fee places a value on the advice and suggestions we provide to you at the Discovery Meeting and in any subsequent reports we may provide. You are under no obligation to hire us to deliver the project after that point, and you are free to use our advice as the basis for discussions with other web design agencies. However, in the event that you do choose us as your project partner, we will deduct the consultancy fee from your final invoice.
During this phase, we’ll review or create a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy for your website. Since websites often organize lots of information into a user-friendly format, this is also the ideal time to get an idea of missing content before we start designing anything. The Identify Phase is our opportunity to explain our respective roles in meeting the deadlines for delivery of your content so the launch process isn’t held up.
The third step of our web design process is to design how the website will look. In this step we will create a wireframe mockup of the basic web page elements such as the header, navigation, widgets, etc. With your input, we will modify this initial design and use it to finalize the overall look and feel of the website and discuss decisions for colors, typography, and imagery. We will do this together before moving on to the development phase.
During the Develop Phase, we will translate your preferred website design into the actual code that will make your website work. Depending on the complexity of your requirements, this stage can be lengthy, so we will keep you up to date with progress at key milestones along the way. We will also expect you to participate in testing as and when key pieces of functionality are completed.
This is the most exciting part of any web development project. There are many steps involved in launching a website, so we will produce a checklist to make sure we (or you) haven’t missed any important steps. We will also invite you and other colleagues to proofread all text, and to make sure everything looks good on all kinds of devices.
After your site has gone live, we will provide you with a Website Owner's Manual containing all the key pieces of information about your site's server, the plugins used, login information, etc. You can use this to inform your in-house support team, or consider purchasing one of our WordPress Support Care Plans.
